What are the key challenges that are likely to affect your sector in the next five years?

Aside from the current challenges around skilled and general labour and materials shortages, I believe the sector will also have to face up to the challenge of improving fire safety, particularly in older buildings.

Why did you want to become a Quantity Surveyor?

I always had a fascination with the built environment and places we lived in, and was drawn to being able to walk around a place and being able to say I was involved in building something. This, combined with a lifelong love of numbers and maths, led me to being a QS.

What is your favourite building and why?

I love the Barbican. Brutalist architecture has always interested me and I think the estate is amazing to walk around to explore its diversity and history. I would fully recommend the walking tours they do!
