What is the current big trend in your sector?

I’m excited to see the next step in the ‘5th dimension’ and see quantity surveyors harness the potential of BIM. The benefits unlocked through 5D BIM may be slow to come to fruition, but once unlocked should revolutionize the measurement process and the ability to advise our clients effectively. The speed at which design changes can be understood, priced and fed back to the client will benefit everyone, and push the QS closer to the designers.

What is your favourite building and why?

The Palace of Westminster. I’ve been fortunate enough to work on the Parliamentary Estate and the Palace is an extraordinary building historically and architecturally.

Give an interesting fact that nobody knows about you?

1) I was born in Dammam, Saudi Arabia. 2) My great, great grandfather invented the pedal bin. 3) I am extremely funny.

What’s the greatest invention ever? Why?

The turbo charger for the internal combustion engine – special mentions also to pencilllin, the internet, and the stuffed crust!
