Equals appointed on the redevelopment of Scala Theatre Worcester

May 2022

We have been appointed as project and cost managers on the creation of a new performance arts and theatre venue for Worcester City Council. We will play a central role as part of the design team in transforming the Scala Theatre and Grade-II-listed Corn Exchange buildings alongside the broader revival of the area. The new theatre and cultural hub will offer leading theatrical, music and performance facilities.

Along with Equals, architects Burrell Foley Fischer have been appointed to design the new hub, with specialist theatre consultants Theatreplan also appointed as part of the team.

David Blake, Managing Director of Worcester City Council, said: “It’s very exciting to be progressing this major investment in the northern part of the city centre. This project will stimulate economic growth in Worcester, creating a new city centre hub for theatre, music, comedy and more.

“The broader regeneration of the Angel Street and Angel Place area will also bring social, economic, and environmental benefits, alongside new living opportunities in the city centre and the enhancement of some of our city’s most striking historic buildings.”

James Sheppard, Director at Equals, said “We are thrilled to be given the opportunity to work on this exciting new development, which seeks to reinvigorate the high street by creating a vibrant cultural hub for the city of Worcester within some fantastic existing buildings.”
