Michael began his career in Dublin in the early 80’s with Boyd Associates quantity surveyors. Moving to the UK he then joined Hanscomb, where he became a Director and Shareholder. At Hanscomb he developed a reputation for working with developer and owner occupier clients, delivering significant projects in London and the South East alongside working in the media sector.
Following the sale of Hanscomb to Atkins/Faithful+Gould he became a Director of Faithful+Gould within the London and South East region, primarily working as Project Director on commercial projects and also leading major projects in the Middle East. He then joined the board of Faithful+Gould taking on the responsibility for commercial services for the UK and Ireland.
Michael is highly regarded and experienced in the commercial development sector and is viewed as an expert in development project economics and delivery. He has also provided cost management services on a significant number of major masterplans, both in the UK and overseas.
Jonathan is a construction and property professional who has enjoyed working on some of the most significant development projects of recent years, in both the UK and internationally. Several of these projects have involved high profile, considered architecture, and Jonathan enjoys a particular reputation for the positive and constructive management of such projects.
Jonathan trained as a professional quantity surveyor in Birmingham with Silk & Frazier in the early 1980s. He joined Hanscomb Partnership in London in 1985, where he rose to the level of Managing Director of Hanscomb UK, and Director of Hanscomb Europe; focusing on the development of project management services. He then served as a main board Director of Atkins Faithful+Gould following their acquisition of Hanscomb, before leaving to join Savant in 2003 as a shareholder and Director. In 2009 Savant joined AECOM, where Jonathan was responsible for the integration of Savant into the AECOM business.
Jonathan is now Equals’ Chairman, focusing on major project leadership and client representation; and acting as a technical mentor to Equals’ project management teams.
Simon has worked in the property and infrastructure sector for nearly 30 years and has experience of both project and business leadership.
He started his career at Hanscomb in the late 1980’s, and having progressed to Director, following an acquisition by Faithful and Gould was a Board Director of Faithful and Gould. He has since held senior leadership positions at Mace, RLB and before joining Equals in 2016 was an Executive Director at Capita, leading the Property and Infrastructure business.
Simon has had leadership roles in some of London’s major projects over recent years, such as the London 2012 Olympic Athlete’s Village, the refurbishment of the Foreign & Commonwealth Office in Whitehall and Heathrow Airport’s Terminal 5.
David has over 30 years experience in the construction industry. A quantity surveyor by background, David is also a skilled Project Manager and Employers Agent, and has led costs on schemes ranging from £500k to £400million.
Before joining Equals in 2016, David spent 10 years at Faithful+Gould specialising in working on commercial developments, both office and residential. David has also worked on many large scale masterplans and is an expert at understanding the needs of developers when approaching a new scheme.
During his career David has worked for contractors, consultants and within client organisations, which gives him a unique insight into the different priorities of these diverse organisations.
Caroline is a chartered Quantity Surveyor with many years experience. She started her career with a major building contractor in Manchester, and after five years she moved into private practice. The experience gained from working on both sides of the construction industry has proved invaluable.
On moving to London, Caroline joined Hanscomb and following their acquisition by Atkins/Faithful+Gould she became an Associate Director. Over the nine years with Faithful+Gould she worked on major commercial and mixed use developments, and both residential and educational schemes.
Caroline has also led cost planning teams for a number of overseas masterplans including schemes in Western Africa, Saudi Arabia and Angola.
Alan is a highly experienced property and infrastructure professional with a successful track record in the development and delivery of health and social care infrastructure.
Holding project director roles in blue chip main contracting and consultancy services, Alan has 30 years industry experience, with expertise covering the full development, procurement and delivery process. His expertise covers master planning and access to funding, through to procurement and the ‘front end’ delivery of design, construction, maintenance and asset management solutions.
Alan has specialised in solutions for health and social care for the last ten years, focussing on infrastructure and service transformation solutions that generate value and savings aligned to clinical and commercial strategy.
Don has over twenty years of experience in cost and project management. Graduating with a BSc in quantity surveying from the University of Salford, Don was an Associate with Hanscomb UK for 6 years and with Hanscomb Faithful+Gould in New York for 5 years. He then moved to Savant where he was a UK Director until 2009. Following the acquisition of Savant by AECOM, he was a Director with the AECOM cost and project management team.
Don has provided project and cost management services on a wide range of building types, including media, corporate and commercial, education and aviation facilities. His talents lie in the ability to be able to work closely with both clients and architects to interpret their vision and ensure designs can be successfully realised within budget.
James is both a chartered project management surveyor and registered architect with close to 20 years consultancy experience.
James qualified and practiced as an architect on retail, commercial and education schemes for design offices in Sydney, San Francisco and London. Relishing the strategic side of the industry, in 2005 he joined Drivers Jonas (later merged with Deloitte) to work as a project manager on some of the major cultural projects of recent years. James led the Culture Heritage & Education team prior to joining Equals in 2014. He also has wide ranging experience spanning retail, private residential, interior fit out and education schemes.
James specialises in significant, complex projects with challenging delivery and funding requirements. He currently assesses project management candidates for the RICS professional qualification and has also sat on the CIC London BIM hub and the IESE (Improvement & Efficiency South East) BIM Task group.
Tony began his career in construction in the late 1980’s, and has since worked as a project manager in companies such as Peel Holdings, Bucknall Austin and BT, and spent 8 years at the BBC where he was head of Workplace Solutions. He then joined Savant in 2008, leaving in 2010 to work as the Project Director on the British Museum’s World Conservation and Exhibitions Centre. Tony joined Equals in 2013.
Tony has extensive experience of managing major building projects up to £300m in value at project director level. This includes the co-ordination of property, technology, new ways of working, migration management and facilities management workstreams. He has led projects involving elements of urban regeneration, creation of public spaces, and area masterplanning.
Tim began his career in the construction sector working for AMEC Capital Projects in the 1990s. He later joined Ballast as a bid manager working on PFI projects, before working as a quantity surveyor for AYH plc based in Manchester. Tim then joined Savant (now AECOM) in London where he worked for five years until joining Equals in 2010.
Tim has experience of providing project management and cost consultancy services from the planning phase through to project delivery and has worked on prestigious and demanding projects for high profile clients. He is experienced in managing both new build construction and refurbishment projects within occupied spaces.
Tim’s varied experience covers a number of sectors providing services for public and private sector clients, private developers, museum, retail and hotel clients and various client groups within the education sector.
Neil is an engineering services quantity surveyor with over 20 years experience. After gaining his BSc (Hons) degree he started his career within the quantity surveying team of a consulting engineering practice. Initially working for a major building contractor, he then moved over into private practice with Hanscomb.
Following their 2002 acquisition by Atkins/Faithful+Gould, he was promoted to lead the engineering services cost management team in London. Neil led the team in London for twelve years before joining Equals in 2014.
Neil’s particular expertise is in the early conceptual cost planning and estimating of complex, innovative projects where information is limited, often involving high profile design practices.
Head of Marketing and BD
Graduating from Reading University in 1995 with a degree in Classical Studies, Joanna later began her career in professional services marketing with Faithful+Gould. Over the last fifteen years she has worked with companies such as Grant Thornton, GVA Grimley, Savant and AECOM, where she was Marketing Director of the project management division across Europe, before leaving to join Equals in 2011.
Joanna’s roles have been varied, covering everything from re-branding companies to running client relationship programmes, and she has brought that range of expertise to Equals to oversee the marketing and business development of the company.
Brian started his career at Hanscomb, and following their acquisition by Atkins/Faithful+Gould continued to work at Faithful+Gould until he joined Equals in 2015.
Brian has gained valuable and varied experience throughout his career, working on bespoke individual projects as well as experiencing working client side for three years with a major financial firm.
Brian has major project experience, and has worked on several multi-million £ office and residential projects as well as smaller, more intricate schemes within listed and heritage buildings.
Adam began his career gaining work at John Cobb Consulting, a small QS practice in Surrey. In 2006 he joined Savant (now AECOM) where he was involved in a wide variety of projects.
Since joining Equals in 2011, Adam has worked in a variety of sectors and types of facilities including sports and public realm, large scale and private residential schemes, commercial and corporate offices, hotels and education.
He has worked with many of the UK’s signature architects and understands the complexities of costing a project within budget while maintaining the integrity of the design.
Helen began her career at Faithful+Gould in early 2004 as an assistant quantity surveyor. She subsequently progressed to the property team at Faithful+Gould whilst studying for her MSc in construction cost management at the University of Reading, graduating in 2006 with distinction.
A chartered surveyor, Helen has subsequently gone on to mentor and assist junior colleagues in gaining their professional qualifications.
Helen joined Equals in 2011, and has worked across a broad range of sectors ranging from residential developments to sporting venues, retail to commercial spaces as well as education and unique bespoke projects.
Declan initially graduated in 2008, having obtained a BSc in building and services management. He then went on to gain a BSc in construction economics and a BSc (Hons) in quantity surveying from Edinburgh Napier University in 2010.
Declan worked for both WMQS and Glenman Corporation in Ireland before leaving to join Equals in 2012. Since joining Equals, and gaining chartered status, Declan has worked on a diverse range of projects, including commercial offices in central London and several major new residential developments. He has also been involved in a number of projects for further education colleges, as well as the fast track fit out of several new stores for a major sports footwear retailer across the UK.
Declan is very client focused and one of his key skills is being able to deliver understandable and articulate cost advice.
Micheál Ó Laochdha
Graduating in 2004, Micheál worked in Ireland for three years with a large residential developer before moving to Australia for six years where he spent his time working with both a main contractor and for the client on large civil, building and rail projects. Following his return from Australia, Micheál joined Equals in 2014.
Micheál has managed the procurement of consultants and contractors on many projects and also managed the overall programme of works through inception, design, procurement and delivery of projects.
His project experience spans a mix of typologies, from commercial office to catering and retail space. He is particularly adept at managing projects in live environments; balancing business as usual with the need to progress capital project works.
Jane graduated in 2001 with a BA in Business Studies. She initially started her career in HR, and while working for Scottish & Newcastle (part of the Heineken Group) Jane discovered an aptitude for project management. Jane joined Savant (now AECOM) in 2007 as assistant project manager, and following a secondment into the BBC, Jane joined Equals in 2010.
Jane is an organised, efficient and resourceful project manager with strong interpersonal, communication, and negotiation skills.
She has worked on many diverse projects across a range of sectors including workplace, media, education and the arts.
Heidi is a qualified project manager with a degree in Art History. Before joining Equals in 2015, Heidi spent over ten years working at the British Museum and has acquired substantial experience in the delivery of high profile cultural projects in the public sector.
One of Heidi’s key skills is bridging and nurturing the relationships between client, design team and contractors throughout the lifetime of a project to ensure its successful delivery.
Heidi has experience in leading stakeholders from the outline design stages of a project through to building completion and occupation, including managing culture change and the migration of teams into new spaces. Since joining Equals Heidi has also worked on projects for the Natural History Museum, the Royal Opera House and the Royal College of Art.
